AC Milan icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic has addressed the growing speculation surrounding Marcus Rashford’s potential move to the Italian club during the January transfer window.
Last month, Rashford stirred transfer rumors after hinting that he might leave his boyhood club, Manchester United, during an interview with renowned journalist Henry Winter. He revealed he was ready for a fresh challenge, sparking interest from several top European clubs, with AC Milan emerging as a strong contender.
Ibrahimovic, now serving as a Senior Advisor to AC Milan’s Ownership and Senior Management under Redbird Capital Partners, recently spoke about the situation. His influential role could position him to influence any potential transfer discussions involving Rashford, a former United teammate.
In a conversation with Sky Sports, Ibrahimovic reflected on Rashford’s talent and the allure of Milan. “I know Rashford well from our time together at Manchester United. He achieved a lot there and remains a key player for them. Playing for AC Milan is a dream for many; it’s one of the biggest clubs globally. It’s a complex deal, though—we haven’t had any discussions with him yet, but let’s see what happens.”
Milan’s manager, Sergio Conceição, who recently boosted his popularity by securing the Italian Super Cup with victories over Juventus and Inter Milan, also commented on the rumors. While frustrated by ongoing speculation, he did not rule out a possible move for Rashford.
“In Portugal, these transfer rumors are even more intense, but here, we prioritize football. Occasionally, someone stirs up talk,” Conceição said. “Rashford is undoubtedly talented, like many others. Some players are available, some are not—we’ll have to wait and see.”
Although both Ibrahimovic and Conceição were noncommittal about the possibility of a transfer, reports suggest Rashford could be nearing an exit from Manchester United, with AC Milan emerging as his most likely destination.
