Bruno Fernandes has disclosed that Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, has been pushing the team to improve its goal-scoring ability as part of efforts to revive their season.
Amorim’s tenure at Old Trafford has had a rocky start, but there have been encouraging signs recently, including a draw against Liverpool and a penalty shootout triumph over Arsenal in the FA Cup. Despite these flashes of potential, the team’s struggles are clear, as they sit 13th in the Premier League standings. With only 23 goals scored in 20 matches, their tally is on par with 19th-placed Leicester City, highlighting an ongoing offensive challenge.
The manager has made it clear that such a goal-scoring record is insufficient, a viewpoint Fernandes shares. Speaking to Sky Sports, the midfielder emphasized the attacking quality in the squad and the need to capitalize on it. “The manager has been telling us we need to score more goals,” Fernandes said. “We have players like Rasmus, Josh [Zirkzee], Amad, Garnacho, Rashy, Antony, and even our midfielders who can contribute goals.”
Fernandes noted that the team has been making strides in training as they adapt to Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation. However, he stressed that tactics alone are not enough, pointing to the importance of effort and determination. “It’s about the passion, desire, and how much you want to win,” he explained. “We understand what the manager demands positionally and tactically. Now, it’s about matching that with effort, running, and desire.”
The midfielder remains hopeful about the team’s progress, believing that continued commitment to both tactical discipline and hard work will put United back on track.
