AC Milan is reportedly strategizing to create space for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford as they navigate the January transfer window. The Italian club aims to offload a forward to accommodate the England international, who is seeking a fresh start after falling out of favor under United manager Ruben Amorim.
Rashford, 27, has turned down offers from Saudi Arabia and Turkey, showing a clear preference for a move to Milan. However, financial hurdles remain a significant obstacle. Currently earning £325,000 per week at United under a contract that runs until 2028, Rashford’s wages far exceed Milan’s top earner Alvaro Morata, who takes home £150,000 weekly. Milan is pushing for a loan deal but is reluctant to shoulder even half of Rashford’s hefty salary.
To make this transfer feasible, Milan is taking steps to free up resources and squad slots. Reports indicate that Noah Okafor is set to join RB Leipzig on an initial loan deal, which could become permanent for €25 million (£21 million) by the summer. Okafor, who arrived from RB Salzburg for €15.5 million (£13 million) in 2023, is no longer a part of Milan’s plans, and his departure would ease the way for Rashford’s potential arrival.
Dane Rashford, the player’s brother and agent, has been in Italy to negotiate the details of the move. Meanwhile, Manchester United appears open to the idea of parting ways with the forward, with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe emphasizing that all players are available at the right price.
Despite contributing seven goals and three assists in 24 appearances this season, Rashford has not played since a 2-1 Europa League win against Viktoria Plzen on December 12. In December, he openly shared his readiness for a new chapter, emphasizing his intention to leave United on good terms. “When I leave, it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings.’ You won’t hear any negative comments from me about Manchester United—that’s just who I am,” he remarked.
