Players like Mainoo and Garnacho are particularly appealing in this context because their in-house development significantly boosts their financial value. It’s suggested that their worth is quadrupled compared to players brought in from external clubs. Garnacho, who has recently been linked to Atletico Madrid, has found game time hard to come by under Ruben Amorim and was notably left out of the squad for the recent derby against Manchester City.
On the other hand, Mainoo is reportedly at a standstill in contract talks with United and has been linked to Chelsea, who are rumored to be leading the race for his signature. The midfielder is pushing for terms that reflect his contributions as a first-team regular and England international, but United’s efforts to slash their wage bill could complicate negotiations.
Beyond academy players, United are also considering the sales of high-profile names like Casemiro, Antony, and Marcus Rashford to address financial challenges. However, the club has reportedly classified two players as untouchable: Leny Yoro and Amad Diallo.
Yoro, a £52.2 million acquisition from Lille, has showcased flashes of brilliance despite limited appearances under Ten Hag and Amorim. Meanwhile, Amad has been a standout performer this season, delivering decisive goals in key fixtures against Manchester City and Liverpool.
