Ruben Amorim reveals why Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are NOT in Man United squad for the Derby as and Not even on the bench after what they did recently
Manchester United are set to clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium this Sunday afternoon in what will be Ruben Amorim’s first taste of the iconic Manchester derby as manager. However, the Red Devils will be missing a key player, Marcus Rashford, who has been excluded from the squad.
Rashford has featured in all 15 of United’s Premier League games this season, starting 12 of them. The 27-year-old was also part of the starting lineup in Thursday’s Europa League win against Viktoria Plzen, where he was substituted in the 56th minute for Rasmus Højlund. Højlund made an instant impact, scoring in United’s dramatic comeback in Czechia.
With seven goals and three assists in 24 appearances across all competitions this season, Rashford has been a vital attacking force. However, his form has dipped recently, as he failed to score in his last two Premier League outings, which saw United suffer back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
In addition to Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho has also been left out of the 18-man squad. The Argentine winger, who made a brief nine-minute cameo in the Europa League victory, has been a regular in United’s league campaign. Garnacho boasts an impressive record of eight goals and four assists in 24 matches this season.
Rasmus Højlund, fresh off his two-goal heroics midweek, has been rewarded with a spot in the starting XI. He is one of four changes Amorim has made for this much-anticipated derby showdown.
