Paul Pogba was seen training with Kobbie Mainoo and the rest of Manchester United player’s after Rúben Amorim granted him his third return to Manchester United.
Former French international Bacary Sagna has voiced his belief that Paul Pogba could embrace the chance to rejoin Manchester United for a third spell, particularly due to the influence of their new manager, Ruben Amorim. Pogba, now a free agent, is reportedly keen to resurrect his career following a turbulent period in his professional journey.
The 2018 World Cup winner recently ended his contract with Juventus by mutual agreement after a challenging second stint in Turin, where he managed just 12 appearances. Pogba’s career took a severe hit in September 2023 when he was handed a four-year ban for inadvertently consuming a prohibited substance. However, his suspension was later reduced to 18 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), allowing him to resume training in January and potentially return to competitive action by March 2024.
At 31 years old, Pogba’s skills and potential remain undeniable. Sagna, formerly of Arsenal and Manchester City, believes the midfielder could stage a remarkable comeback at Old Trafford, just two years after his departure. Speaking to Mega Dice, Sagna highlighted Amorim’s role in making this return possible:
“Manchester United’s environment has evolved since Paul’s time there. With a young, modern manager who has played at the highest level, Amorim understands the complexities players face. I think he would welcome Paul back, knowing how deeply Paul loves the club.”
Sagna further underscored Pogba’s enduring passion for Manchester United despite the challenges of his previous spell, which spanned six years and saw the team win two trophies.
“I’ve had many conversations with Paul, and his love for United is genuine. Although his return didn’t unfold as expected, the issues weren’t solely his responsibility—many players struggled during that era,” Sagna added.
United’s current midfield struggles might also support a potential Pogba return. The team is grappling with injuries to Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte, while Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have found it difficult to maintain full-match stamina, as seen in the recent 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town. Amorim, tasked with reinvigorating the squad, could view Pogba’s experience and creativity as vital assets.
Despite lingering concerns about Pogba’s form and fitness after his extended absence, the prospect of a return to Manchester United under Amorim adds an intriguing twist to his redemption arc.
