Ruben Amorim is Manchester United’s new head coach! 🚨

Manchester United has named Ruben Amorim as the club’s latest head coach, stepping in after Erik ten Hag’s departure. The 39-year-old Portuguese manager is set to lead the team at Old Trafford, with his official start contingent on work visa approval. He has signed a contract through June 2027, with an option to extend for an additional year.

In a statement, the club expressed its enthusiasm about bringing Amorim on board. “Manchester United is thrilled to confirm Ruben Amorim as Head Coach of the men’s first team, pending work visa clearance. He will commence his role with United on Monday, November 11, 2024,” read the announcement. The club also noted Amorim’s impressive track record, which includes guiding Sporting CP to two Primeira Liga championships, notably ending the club’s 19-year title drought.

Until Amorim officially joins, Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue in a temporary managerial capacity, handling upcoming matches against Chelsea, PAOK, and Leicester City. Amorim’s debut in charge will be an away game at Ipswich on November 24, following the international break, while Van Nistelrooy’s long-term role with the club is yet to be determined.

Sporting CP has confirmed that Manchester United paid €11 million (£9.25 million) to secure Amorim’s release. This coaching change follows a rocky start to the Premier League season for United, with four losses already recorded, including a recent 2-1 setback against West Ham.

Amorim, now the youngest manager in Premier League history, has been tasked with bringing Manchester United back to its former glory. His rise to prominence began with a successful spell at Braga before he achieved notable success at Sporting CP, making him a highly sought-after coach in Europe.

Today’s announcement came as a slight surprise, as Amorim had initially hinted that details would be shared after Sporting’s game against Estrela Amadora on Friday evening. With an impressive résumé and the drive to make a difference at United, fans are eagerly anticipating the changes Amorim will bring to the team’s dynamics.
