Paul Scholes has advised Manchester United to consider Zinedine Zidane as a viable alternative to Ruben Amorim in their search for a new manager, following Erik ten Hag’s departure on Monday.
With Ineos now overseeing football operations at Old Trafford, the club is actively looking for a permanent head coach. Ruud van Nistelrooy has stepped in as interim manager, though it’s unclear if he has a long-term interest in the role.
Manchester United has reportedly reached an initial agreement with Sporting Lisbon for Amorim, who guided the Portuguese club to its first league title in nearly two decades. Amorim is also rumored as a possible candidate for Manchester City if Pep Guardiola leaves.
However, Scholes has voiced concerns about Amorim’s suitability, proposing Zidane as an experienced alternative given his accomplishments at Real Madrid. Scholes noted that language might present a challenge for Zidane in the Premier League, but his record makes him a strong contender.
