Ruben Amorim’s debut as Manchester United manager has been scheduled following an agreement reached with Sporting Lisbon. This arrangement clears the way for Amorim to take charge at Old Trafford, marking the beginning of his tenure with an upcoming match that’s highly anticipated by fans and analysts alike.

Manchester United supporters will need to wait almost a month to witness Ruben Amorim’s first match as manager. On Wednesday, United finalized an agreement with Sporting Lisbon to bring in the 39-year-old Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s replacement. Ten Hag was dismissed on Monday following United’s poor start to the season, which saw them drop to 14th place in the Premier League standings.

Until Amorim’s arrival, Ruud van Nistelrooy has assumed the position of caretaker manager, and he made a positive start with an exciting 5-2 Carabao Cup win over Leicester City. Although there were hopes that Amorim might make it to the sidelines for Sunday’s clash with Chelsea, Van Nistelrooy will be at the helm for three more games before the new manager officially joins the squad.

As part of the £10 million deal, Amorim is required to serve a 30-day notice period at Sporting Lisbon, where he has three games left: a match against Estrela da Amadora this Friday, a Champions League face-off with Manchester City next Tuesday, and a final match against Braga on Sunday, November 10. This timeline sets the stage for Amorim’s managerial debut for United on Sunday, November 24, in an away game against Ipswich Town, where they will encounter former United coach Kieran McKenna.

After the Chelsea fixture, Van Nistelrooy’s team will meet Greek side PAOK Thessaloniki in the Europa League, with United still searching for their first victory in the tournament.

Reflecting on his recent win, Van Nistelrooy said, “I came here to support the club, and I’m here to help however I can. My focus remains on assisting the club in building for a better future.”
