Man Utd to enlist Sir Alex Ferguson to sign top midfield target who will transform the team
Manchester United are reportedly exploring the possibility of calling on club icon Sir Alex Ferguson to help persuade one of their leading midfield targets to move to Old Trafford this summer.
Ferguson enjoyed an extraordinary 26-year reign at the club, collecting 38 trophies before stepping down in 2013. Since his retirement, United have spent years trying to recapture the dominance and consistency that defined his era.
With the team now close to securing a return to the UEFA Champions League, attention is already shifting toward a crucial summer rebuild. Midfield is seen as one of the key areas requiring major reinforcement.
Casemiro is expected to leave when his current deal ends, while Manuel Ugarte could also move on after struggling to make the desired impact following his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.
One player high on United’s radar is Ayyoub Bouaddi, the highly rated teenager from Lille OSC. At just 18, Bouaddi has already become a regular starter and has featured 39 times in all competitions this season, underlining his rapid development.
However, United are not alone in the race. Arsenal and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the youngster, meaning competition for his signature could be fierce. Reports suggest United believe Ferguson’s presence and influence could help sway the player’s decision.
Bouaddi’s rise has drawn comparisons to the excitement surrounding Leny Yoro in 2024. United managed to beat Real Madrid to Yoro’s signing, viewing him as a cornerstone for the future.
The club are also said to be considering several other midfield options, including Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Aurelien Tchouameni and Sandro Tonali.
United have turned to Ferguson’s influence before. Back in 2020, then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær hoped the legendary Scot could help convince Jude Bellingham to join after his breakthrough season at Birmingham City.
Bellingham visited Carrington with his family while deciding his next move, but Ferguson reportedly had only a brief interaction with the midfielder before club officials moved the meeting along. It was said to be a frustrating moment for Ferguson, who felt he could have done more to influence the decision. In the end, Bellingham chose Borussia Dortmund instead.
