Huge news has been announced this evening on Antony’s departure from Manchester United

Manchester United are reportedly considering sending Brazilian winger Antony out on loan during the January transfer window, with a possible permanent move on the table for the summer. The 24-year-old, who joined the club for a hefty fee of up to £86 million, has struggled to live up to expectations and has seen his playing time reduced under manager Erik ten Hag.

Antony arrived at Old Trafford with high hopes, particularly due to his prior connection with Ten Hag at Ajax, where the manager was instrumental in pushing for his transfer. While Ten Hag wasn’t solely responsible for the signing, United ultimately agreed on a deal with Ajax that included £82 million in guaranteed payments, making Antony one of the club’s most expensive transfers ever. This was despite earlier scouting reports, during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time, that valued him at around £25 million, with the club initially unwilling to spend more than £60 million.

Unfortunately, Antony has yet to justify his hefty price tag, and he has slipped down the pecking order, with players like Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Amad Diallo preferred in wide positions this season. The exits of Jadon Sancho, Omari Forson, and Facundo Pellistri haven’t helped Antony’s chances of securing more minutes. So far, he has only logged 139 minutes across all competitions, with his sole start coming in a Carabao Cup tie against Barnsley.
