Manchester United is Set to Sign Barcelona Star Frenkie de Jong in a £80million move next summer
If Barcelona is unable to reach an agreement on a new deal with Frenkie de Jong, the club will allegedly consider selling him.
De Jong has long been linked with a transfer to Manchester United, which has yet to happen, but he might leave Barcelona next summer if his long-term future is not guaranteed.
The Ajax academy graduate has two years remaining on his current contract, which expires in 2026, and his employers are aggressively attempting to extend his stay. According to Spanish outlet SPORT, De Jong has not responded to Barcelona’s contract offer and will try to sell him in June if he does not accept it.
A similar situation is happening in the case of Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo, another player with whom United has been heavily associated, since he has “not accepted” the conditions of the contract and is due to depart the club in 2026.
Barcelona’s focus right now is the midfield tandem of Pedri and Gavi, both of whom are “totally willing to continue” at the club and may wind up driving De Jong out if he does not commit.
According to the source, United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain have all been “tempting” the Netherlands international, who was questioned about his future throughout the summer as Erik ten Hag attempted to reconcile with his former teammate.
“Will you be staying in Barcelona? “Yes, I am really pleased in Barcelona with my family,” De Jong remarked. “Hansi Flick expects me to play an important role. I chatted with him. “It was good.”
Barcelona president Joan Laporta spoke on the subject, saying, “The last thing he wants is to leave Barcelona.” He has told me several times that he is pleased to be here.
“We are thrilled with him. I am not worried about anyone, and if a player wants to go, we can not go against their wishes. But I believe everyone wants to remain, and we want everyone we can to stay. We do not want any of them to quit since no team has ever been a one-hit wonder.”
