The incident occurred in the 63rd minute when Martinez lunged toward Kamada, who had control of the ball. Despite winning the ball cleanly without touching Kamada, the challenge sparked outrage among the Palace players, who felt the defender should have seen red.

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson even charged out of his goal to protest the decision, earning himself a yellow card for his reaction. Roughly 15 minutes later, the Premier League’s Match Centre took to social media to provide clarity on the situation, confirming that VAR had reviewed the tackle.

The statement read, “Martinez was shown a yellow card for his challenge on Kamada. VAR checked for a possible red card and confirmed the referee’s decision, concluding it was a reckless challenge with no contact made.”
