Manchester United supporters feel a critical decision by manager Erik ten Hag shifted the outcome of their match against Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils missed the opportunity to secure consecutive Premier League victories, finishing with a 0-0 stalemate against a resilient Palace side at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening.

Despite controlling possession and creating several scoring opportunities, United couldn’t break through the Palace defense.

In the second half, Ten Hag attempted to shake things up, introducing Marcus Rashford, Manuel Ugarte, and Rasmus Højlund to replace Joshua Zirkzee, Christian Eriksen, and Amad Diallo.

However, the decision to substitute Dutch forward Zirkzee did not sit well with many United fans.

One fan expressed on social media: “Zirkzee shouldn’t have come off…we lost that vital connection when he left.”

Another tweeted: “Taking Zirkzee off was a mistake…even Amad was making things happen. The substitutions were all wrong.”

A third fan noted: “Zirkzee needed to stay on, the game shifted after he left.”

Another comment read: “The subs didn’t work at all today. Technical players like Zirkzee, Amad, and Eriksen, who move the ball quickly, were taken off for Rashford, Højlund, and Ugarte.”

A fifth added: “Taking off Zirkzee and Amad killed our attacking play!”

One more fan remarked: “Taking off Zirkzee was a bad call. He connects the play and sustains attacks, which is crucial against a team sitting deep.”

Following the match, former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp shared his thoughts on Sky Sports, saying: “When you dominate a game like that, you need to make it count. The substitutions didn’t have the desired impact, and United will be disappointed.”

The draw leaves Manchester United sitting 11th in the Premier League standings, with just seven points from their opening five games.
