Manchester United recorded back-to-back wins after a worrying start to the 2024/25 season, including a 7-0 win. Erik ten Hag has named one player he believes could be vital this campaign.

Manchester United, who have struggled to regain their Premier League dominance since their last title in 2013, have experienced a tough beginning to the current season. The team suffered two consecutive defeats, including a heavy 3-0 loss at home to Liverpool, raising questions about Erik ten Hag’s leadership. Despite these setbacks, United have shown signs of improvement with back-to-back victories over Southampton and Barnsley.

Amid the challenges, Ten Hag has pinpointed Marcus Rashford as a key figure for the campaign. After Rashford scored twice in the Carabao Cup win against Barnsley, Ten Hag emphasized the forward’s potential to make a significant impact on the team’s fortunes.

“It’s not just about Rashford scoring all the goals,” Ten Hag noted, “but having a reliable goal scorer can be a game-changer.” Rashford, who found the back of the net 30 times in Ten Hag’s first season, is now striving to regain his goal-scoring touch after a lengthy drought.

Besides Rashford, players like Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Lisandro Martinez, and new signing Rasmus Hojlund are also expected to be pivotal. Goalkeeper Andre Onana expressed his satisfaction with Rashford’s resurgence, noting that the England forward’s return to scoring has brought relief after a challenging spell last season.
