Jesse Lingard, former midfielder for Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, recently experienced some light-hearted mocking during a match while playing for his new team, FC Seoul, in South Korea’s K League.
After leaving Old Trafford following the 2021/22 season, Lingard joined Nottingham Forest, where he had a notable stint before his departure at the end of the 2023/24 season. In February 2024, the 31-year-old announced his next step in football—signing with FC Seoul to begin a fresh journey in the K League.
During a recent match against Daejeon Hana Citizen, Lingard played a pivotal role, netting an equalizer to bring the score to 2-2. To celebrate, he performed his iconic dance move, familiar to many from his time at Manchester United. However, the celebration didn’t last long, as Daejeon’s Kim Hyeon-Ug scored an 83rd-minute winner. Adding a humorous twist, Kim imitated Lingard’s dance in a playful act of banter.
The playful taunt quickly went viral, with social media users reacting to the moment. One fan quipped, “Didn’t know the Koreans had this level of s***housery,” while another tweeted, “Lingard, never change.”
Reflecting on his move to South Korea, Lingard shared his enthusiasm for the new opportunity: “I’m really excited for this new challenge. I’m here to embrace the culture, and it’s a fresh start for me. I want to enjoy football again, bring some joy to the fans, and showcase what I can do.”
Lingard’s move to FC Seoul makes him the seventh English footballer to play in the K League, joining the likes of Jordan Mutch, Richard Offiong, Chris Marsden, and others.
