Following Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, Alejandro Garnacho expressed his emotions on social media after his goal was controversially disallowed. During the August 24 match at the Amex Stadium, Brighton took the lead in the 32nd minute when Kaoru Mitoma set up Danny Welbeck to score. Manchester United managed to equalize in the 60th minute through Amad Diallo, who finished off a pass from Noussair Mazraoui.

Garnacho was brought on as a substitute for Marcus Rashford in the 65th minute and found the back of the net in the 72nd minute, which seemed to put United ahead. However, the goal was ruled out by VAR, as Joshua Zirkzee was deemed offside in the build-up. Brighton then secured the win with João Pedro scoring in the 95th minute.

After the match, Garnacho took to Instagram to post a picture from the game, captioning it with, “God has something planned for me, trust the process.” He also thanked the fans, saying, “Thank you United fans for always supporting us.”

This loss leaves Manchester United in 11th place in the Premier League standings, having secured just three points from their first two matches.

Before the match, United’s manager Erik ten Hag spoke about Garnacho’s potential, acknowledging his skill but highlighting the need for continued hard work to reach the highest levels of the game. Ten Hag praised Garnacho’s contributions last season but stressed that the young winger still has much to achieve.

Garnacho, who made his senior debut in 2022, had an impressive season last year, featuring in 50 matches and tallying 10 goals and five assists. This season, he has already provided one assist in two league games.

Manchester United’s next Premier League fixture is set for September 1, where they will face Liverpool at Old Trafford.
