Mason Greenwood has reportedly made a decision regarding his international career following his transfer to Marseille, according to a recent report.

The 22-year-old forward completed a permanent move from Manchester United earlier this summer and quickly made a mark by scoring twice in his Ligue 1 debut for Marseille, now under the leadership of former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Greenwood’s sole appearance for England’s senior team occurred in September 2020, when he came on as a late substitute in a Nations League match against Iceland. However, after that game, Greenwood and fellow England player Phil Foden were sent home due to breaches of Covid-19 protocols.

Since then, Greenwood has not been called up to the England squad. His absence was further compounded by his January 2022 arrest on charges including attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm. Although these charges were brought in October 2022, they were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in February 2023.

Being of Jamaican descent, Greenwood remains eligible to represent Jamaica in international competitions under FIFA rules, which permit players to switch national teams if they have fewer than four competitive appearances before the age of 21.

Jamaica, which recently appointed former Manchester United assistant coach Steve McClaren as their new manager, is reportedly interested in Greenwood. During his introductory press conference, McClaren hinted at the possibility of recruiting Greenwood, stating, “I had a brief conversation with Mason. I want to meet with all potential players when I return to Jamaica to see if they are committed to playing for the country. I will ensure we have discussions with all the eligible players on our list.”

According to *The Sun*, Greenwood has now decided to represent Jamaica at the international level. The report indicates that Jamaica has already reached out to the English FA with a formal request to complete the process.

Jamaica has not participated in the World Cup since 1998, but with the expansion of the tournament to 48 teams in 2026, which will be held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, their chances of qualification have increased. McClaren, who signed a two-year deal with Jamaica earlier this month, will be responsible for guiding the Reggae Boyz to their first World Cup appearance under his leadership.
