Manchester United is set to finalize three major transfers today, totaling a combined value of £75 million. After a late complication threatened to derail one of the deals, the issue has now been resolved, clearing the way for all three players to undergo medicals.
Manchester United moved quickly to secure Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro earlier in the transfer window. Despite reaching personal agreements with players such as Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs De Ligt, and Manuel Ugarte, progress on these transfers has stalled.
United decided to back out of pursuing PSG’s Ugarte after hesitating over his €60 million asking price. Nevertheless, the club is still interested in Bayern Munich’s Mazraoui and De Ligt, with Mazraoui’s move contingent on Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s sale.
A significant development occurred when Manchester United and West Ham agreed on a £15 million transfer fee, with personal terms also settled. Although initial complications arose on Sunday night, these issues have since been resolved. David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano have confirmed the transfer is now finalized. Wan-Bissaka is expected to undergo a medical today (Monday) and finalize a five-year contract, making him West Ham’s eighth signing of the summer. Other new arrivals at West Ham include Wes Foderingham, Max Kilman, Guido Rodriguez, Luis Guilherme, Crysencio Summerville, and Niclas Fullkrug. Jean-Clair Todibo also joined as the seventh signing after a dramatic switch from Juventus.
Wan-Bissaka’s departure will allow Mazraoui to take over the right-back position. Mazraoui and De Ligt are scheduled for medical examinations today and were seen arriving at Munich airport before heading to England. Mazraoui’s deal is valued at €20 million (£17.1 million), with €15 million (£12.8 million) guaranteed and €5 million (£4.2 million) in add-ons. De Ligt’s transfer totals €50 million (£42.7 million), with €45 million (£38.5 million) guaranteed and €5 million (£4.2 million) in add-ons. Payment for De Ligt will be spread over three years, and both players will sign five-year contracts with an option for a sixth year.
Despite these moves, Manchester United still has more transfers planned. According to Sky Germany, Victor Lindelof, Casemiro, and Scott McTominay are expected to leave. The club is preparing for these exits, and the addition of De Ligt will help balance Lindelof’s departure. United will also need a new central midfielder to partner with Kobbie Mainoo.
With Ugarte no longer an option, United has shown interest in players like Youssouf Fofana (Monaco), Ederson (Atalanta), Richard Rios (Palmeiras), Adrien Rabiot (free agent), Sander Berge (Burnley), and Frenkie de Jong (Barcelona). Reports suggest Berge has agreed to join, though it remains unclear if United will meet Burnley’s £30 million asking price.
Additionally, following news of Yoro’s three-month injury layoff due to a fractured metatarsal, Manchester United might seek another center-back. Fabrizio Romano has indicated that free agent Mario Hermoso, formerly of Atletico Madrid, is on United’s radar for a potential short-term contract to cover Yoro’s absence.
