Joshua Zirkzee Reveals His Preferred Man Utd Shirt Number! 🏟️ In an exclusive reveal, rising star Joshua Zirkzee shares the iconic number he dreams of wearing at Manchester United! Fans are buzzing with excitement as the young striker sets his sights on making a lasting impression at Old Trafford. Which legendary Red Devil’s number will he choose to carry forward? Stay tuned to find out and join the conversation as we dive into Zirkzee’s aspirations and what this means for United’s future.
New Manchester United signing Joshua Zirkzee expressed his willingness to don either the number 9 or 11 jersey following his transfer from Bologna. United confirmed the arrival of the Dutch international last week, securing him for a fee slightly above his £34 million release clause. Zirkzee joins the FA Cup holders after playing a key role in Bologna’s unexpected qualification for the Champions League.
The Red Devils have yet to finalize their squad numbers for the 2024/25 season. The number 9 shirt is vacant following Anthony Martial’s departure on a free transfer. Rasmus Hojlund, who joined last season, currently holds the number 11 shirt, and Zirkzee mentioned that it would be up to him and the Danish international to decide who gets which iconic number.
In an interview with Supergaande, Zirkzee stated, “It depends on Rasmus Hojlund. He’s already here and is also a striker. Number 9 is available, but he has 11, so he might want number 9 now. If that’s the case, I’ll take 11. I had 11 at Bologna, so it’s fine with me.”
Martial wore the number 9 jersey from the 2019/20 to the 2023/24 seasons, with other notable players like Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic also having worn it in recent years.
At 23, Zirkzee joins United after netting 11 goals in 34 Serie A matches last season. He left Bayern Munich permanently in 2022 after loan spells with Parma and Anderlecht. Additionally, Zirkzee represented the Netherlands in Euro 2024, making two brief substitute appearances in their journey to the semi-finals. Initially left out of the squad, he was called up by Ronald Koeman due to injuries to Frenkie de Jong and Teun Koopmeiners.
With attacking talents like Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho available to manager Erik ten Hag, fans are eager to see how United will line up in the upcoming season.
