“Good bids” could see Manchester United duo seal transfers away this summer, says expert.
Manchester United may consider selling Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof this summer if they receive substantial offers for the defenders, according to trade news expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils are actively seeking new center-backs, with Romano providing insights into their interest in Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite as potential targets.
In his exclusive Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, Romano mentioned that while the right bids could prompt United to part with Maguire and Lindelof, it remains uncertain how probable this scenario is.
Romano did not specify any particular clubs interested in Maguire or Lindelof. However, it seems logical that Manchester United might be willing to offload them, given their inconsistent appearances under Erik ten Hag and the potential arrival of prominent defenders like De Ligt or Branthwaite.
According to Romano, Manchester United could consider letting Maguire and Lindelof leave as part of a defensive revamp.
“De Ligt is currently only in discussions with Manchester United; no other clubs are involved as his focus is on a potential move to Old Trafford,” Romano stated.
“Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton is another name on United’s radar, and he is the only player they have made a formal offer for so far.
Their initial bid of £35 million plus add-ons was rejected, but their interest persists. Everything hinges on Everton, who are demanding £65-70 million for Branthwaite.
That price is currently too steep for United, but they are ready to negotiate if the valuation drops.
“Even with the potential signing of De Ligt, United might pursue another center-back. It depends on their budget and the available opportunities, but it remains an option.
The future of players like Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and others hinges on whether they receive attractive proposals and competitive bids.
“In general, another center-back is a possibility – Branthwaite remains on the list, but United have no intention of paying £70 million, so the only way forward is if Everton reduces their asking price.”
