Manchester United’s bid for a major summer acquisition might unsettle Premier League defenders Virgil van Dijk and Nathan Ake. Under the new football operations guidance of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the Red Devils aim to enhance their squad across multiple positions during the summer transfer window.
Securing a central defender is a top priority, and negotiations are reportedly progressing to acquire Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt. According to Sky Sports Germany, the 24-year-old Dutchman, who previously played under United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, remains highly esteemed by his former coach.
De Ligt transferred from Juventus to Bayern two years ago for approximately £68 million, a fee similar to what Juventus paid Ajax in 2019. The German club is reportedly open to selling him for the right price.
Currently representing the Netherlands at Euro 2024, De Ligt has garnered high praise from his Premier League-based international teammates. Liverpool’s Van Dijk has expressed his admiration for the young defender, stating in 2019, “He’s obviously an excellent defender, that’s clear.
