Young defender WANTS Old Trafford switch! Everton’s starlet reportedly keen on United move, but will the Red Devils meet the Toffees’ hefty price tag?
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is eyeing a move to Manchester United this summer, eagerly awaiting an offer from the Premier League giants.
Branthwaite had a stellar debut season with Everton, racking up 41 appearances across various competitions and helping the team secure their Premier League status under Sean Dyche. His impressive performance has not only earned him a spot in England’s preliminary Euro squad but also attracted significant interest from multiple clubs. Reports indicate that Manchester United had a £35 million bid turned down.
Fabrizio Romano notes that INEOS is contemplating further pursuing a deal, contingent on Everton’s demands. The journalist states that the 21-year-old defender is keen on joining Manchester United and is waiting for them to make their move.
Branthwaite, who started his career at Carlisle United, signed with Everton in January 2020 and has since played 54 times for the Merseyside club. Most of these appearances came last season following a successful loan stint at PSV Eindhoven the previous year.
Praised by England Under-21 manager Lee Carsley as “outstanding,” Branthwaite is recognized for his physicality, ball-handling skills, and aerial prowess. These qualities have caught the attention of Manchester United, who are seeking a central defender to pair with Lisandro Martinez in the long term.
On his Transfer Live show, Romano shared that Branthwaite is hopeful for a move to Old Trafford and is awaiting INEOS to start negotiations. Romano mentioned:
“Manchester United will internally discuss their plans for Jarrad Branthwaite again this upcoming week. The player is waiting and believes Manchester United is a fantastic option for his future. However, it also depends on Everton’s stance. If the deal remains at £70 million, United will not pursue Branthwaite. The terms need to be adjusted, and we will see what happens.”
It remains uncertain whether United will meet the £70 million valuation, but they are reportedly considering alternatives like Jean-Clair Todibo, Leny Yoro, and Matthijs de Ligt should the deal for Branthwaite prove too costly.
