Chelsea Star Ian Maatsen has signed contract with this shocking Premier League for £40m after leaving Borussia Dortmund on loan.
Aston Villa has negotiated a price with Chelsea to sign Dutch defender Ian Maatsen.
The 22-year-old will cost between £35 million and £40 million, depending on potential add-ons, and the transfer is subject to a physical before the left-back signs a six-year contract at Villa Park.
Maatsen chose Villa because of the potential of Champions League play next season, having already reached the competition’s final while on loan at Borussia Dortmund in the second part of last season.
The Blues had explored signing Villa striker Jhon Duran as part of a swap deal, but have decided to sell Maatsen separately.
Dortmund sought to recruit Maatsen earlier this month following a successful loan stint, but they were hesitant to pay the entire £35 million asking price.
Maatsen signed a 12-month contract extension in January, but it includes a release provision that would likely result in his departure this summer.
He is now with the Netherlands national team in Germany for Euro 2024, where they meet France on Friday in Leipzig, and has yet to sign a contract or undergo a physical in the Midlands.
Maatsen joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in 2019, and he flourished on loan at Charlton, Coventry, Burnley, and Dortmund, but failed to make the grade under Mauricio Pochettino last season.
He left Stamford Bridge after 16 games with the club.
