Kobbie Mainoo is set to become a crucial player for Erik ten Hag in Manchester United’s midfield.
The talented youngster, who has represented England at various levels, is one of only three United players who are not on the transfer list before the new Premier League season kicks off.
Currently, Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay are the only midfielders available for ten Hag to choose from. Consequently, the club has turned to the transfer market to bolster their options and is reportedly interested in acquiring a new midfielder.
Recent reports indicate that Manchester United is eyeing Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka. Goretzka has been a key player for Bayern in recent years, but his prominence has decreased with the rise of Alexander Pavlovic.
Bayern chief Christoph Freund praised Goretzka less than a year ago, calling him a “top player” and a “leader.”
“Leon is an absolute top player, consistently proving himself at the highest level for many years. Recently, he has delivered strong performances across various positions, even playing with a broken hand, which demonstrates his excellent mentality. Leon is a leader who always steps up on the pitch and takes responsibility in tough situations,” Freund stated.
Goretzka, a formidable midfielder, recorded six goals and seven assists in 30 Bundesliga matches last season. His statistical profile is similar to Arsenal’s Declan Rice, who was a target for Manchester United before moving to north London.
The 29-year-old, who earns £300,000 per week, still has two years left on his contract with Bayern. However, Football Transfers reports that he is “available for a move this window” as Bayern looks to revamp their squad under Vincent Kompany.
Goretzka might also be interested in leaving, having missed out on Germany’s EURO 2024 squad and falling out of favor with the national team.
