Manchester United have reached an agreement on personal terms with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and are preparing to make an official bid for the young defender this summer. Branthwaite has become United’s main defensive target, especially since Everton’s financial issues might compel them to sell their valuable player.

Everton values Branthwaite at approximately £70 million (€83 million), and United will start negotiating the transfer fee after finalizing a contract with the 21-year-old, expected to be around £150,000 to £160,000 per week, as reported by The Times.

United’s transfer activity has ramped up following confirmation that Erik ten Hag will remain as manager next season, based on an end-of-season review. The club has been particularly impressed with Branthwaite, who, at 6 feet 5 inches tall, was pivotal in Everton’s defense, which conceded the fourth-fewest goals last season. However, the transfer is anticipated to be complex and may drag on through the summer, according to FOOTBALLWAVE.

In addition to Branthwaite, United aim to strengthen their defense further with another center-back, following Raphael Varane’s free transfer departure and uncertainty surrounding Harry Maguire’s future. Jonny Evans is also out of contract. Both United and Liverpool have shown interest in Lille’s Leny Yoro, although Real Madrid is currently the favorite to sign the 18-year-old.

Jean-Clair Todibo and Matthijs de Ligt are also being considered by United as right-footed center-back options, with Branthwaite seen as the ideal candidate to compete with Lisandro Martinez for the left-center back spot.
