Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is keen to remain at Manchester United next season, according to a report in Corriere dello Sport. The 27-year-old joined the Red Devils on loan from Fiorentina last summer for €10 million, with an option for United to purchase him for €20 million plus €5 million in add-ons. Despite Amrabat’s desire to stay, the club’s management appears to be indifferent.
Amrabat is expected to return to Fiorentina at the end of June, and the Serie A club is already negotiating a permanent move with Galatasaray. Manchester United, however, still has the opportunity to decide on purchasing Amrabat.
Last summer, Amrabat joined United amidst high expectations, having attracted interest from several clubs before signing on transfer deadline day. He initially struggled to cope with the Premier League’s demands and was benched early in 2024, with Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo preferred in midfield.
Amrabat eventually reclaimed a regular starting position in May, impressing in matches against Arsenal and Newcastle United, and starting in the FA Cup final due to a minor injury to Casemiro. Despite these strong performances, the club’s hierarchy remains hesitant about signing him permanently.
There is still a possibility that this decision could change. Amrabat, lauded as a “world-class” player by Morocco manager Walid Regragui, might stay at the club if Erik ten Hag continues as manager. However, if Ten Hag is replaced, the new manager might prefer to focus on different transfer targets rather than advocating for Amrabat’s retention.
