Tosin Adarabioyo, 26, has joined Chelsea on a four-year free transfer from Fulham.

Adarabioyo, whose contract expires at the end of the month, is said to be making the transfer to play in Europe, with Chelsea having qualified for next season’s Europa Conference League.

Adarabioyo, a former Manchester City youth centre-back, turned down a chance to become one of Fulham’s highest-paid players in April.

“Chelsea is a massive club, and this represents a complete circle moment for me. “I was born three miles from Stamford Bridge and made my professional debut there,” Adarabioyo explained.

“I’m really eager to assist drive the club in the direction we want to go.”

Chelsea hopes he can assist improve their record in both attacking and defensive set-pieces, as coach Bernardo Cueva joins them from Brentford for £750,000 to develop a set-piece department.

Adarabioyo’s arrival might hasten the exit of Chelsea academy defender Trevoh Chalobah, who is up for sale this summer and has attracted attention from Manchester United.

Thiago Silva, 39, will also quit Chelsea to rejoin Brazilian side Fluminense.

Manchester United attempted to change his mind with a late push, but he had already decided to transfer to Stamford Bridge and maintained his word.

It came after Chelsea hijacked Newcastle’s month-long discussions for Adarabioyo, with Atletico Madrid also intrigued but unable to compete against Premier League possibilities.

The former Manchester City academy graduate selected Chelsea because of the prospect of a key role, the opportunity to work with new boss Enzo Maresca – whom he previously worked with at City – and his conviction in the project.

The Blues’ decision to go all out for Adarabioyo is intended to assist overcome a significant weakness at set-pieces by utilizing his 6ft 5in size when attacking and defending free-kicks and corners.
