According to Fabrizio Romano in an exclusive interview with FOOTBALLWAVE, former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is eager and well-prepared to take over if Manchester United decides to appoint him. However, Romano emphasized that the club’s priority is to first communicate any decision to their current manager, Erik ten Hag.

Erik ten Hag, who has led Manchester United to consecutive trophy wins at Old Trafford, is under scrutiny after the team finished eighth in the Premier League, their worst finish ever. Despite the FA Cup and Carabao Cup victories, there are doubts about his future. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the club’s leadership are thoroughly evaluating potential replacements.

Former goalkeeper Paul Robinson has called for Ten Hag’s dismissal and the immediate hiring of Pochettino. Meanwhile, the club’s board is meticulously reviewing Ten Hag’s performance and considering major changes to the squad.

As the off-season continues, Ten Hag is anxiously awaiting the decision on whether he will continue to lead Manchester United into the 2024/25 season, which includes Europa League play due to their FA Cup success. Pochettino, since leaving Chelsea, has been a frequent candidate for the position, alongside Thomas Tuchel, another ex-Chelsea manager. Manchester United has also been holding fresh discussions with Ten Hag.

Romano highlighted that Pochettino is keen to return to management immediately, praised as an “outstanding” manager by Eddie Howe. Pochettino is prepared to step into the role at Manchester United without needing a break. However, the club’s immediate focus remains on finalizing their decision about Ten Hag and informing him of their plans before considering other coaching options.

Romano stated: “Mauricio Pochettino is ready to return to management right away. He’s eager and doesn’t need any time off before taking his next step. If Manchester United decides to pursue him, he will be prepared to jump back into the business immediately. But for now, Manchester United’s priority is to make a decision on Erik ten Hag, inform him, and then potentially move forward with another coach.”
