Former Real Madrid Coach Zinedine Zidane is set to become the manager of Manchester United after Erig Ten Hag sacking today.

Former Manchester United forward Louis Saha has suggested Zinedine Zidane as a top option to help the team’s fortunes revive.

Although Saha values the efforts of his present manager Erik ten Hag, he thinks that Zidane’s strict criteria might provide the team’s morale much-needed lift. Ten Hag’s future is at a turning point for co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe following a season in which he won the FA Cup but also saw United slide to ninth place, the lowest-ever Premier League finish.

Speaking with OLBG (via the Mirror), Saha said, “Zidane is the manager I would dream to have at Manchester United for obvious reasons, he would do well and he’s motivated to come back into football and I think it will be difficult for him to stay out for another year.”

“Their strategy seems to be unlike something Zidane would have. Too many United players decrease their level and lack consistency when you need 10 guys completely consumed with returning them to the absolute top to be successful.”

Saha has said he supports Ten Hag’s efforts at Old Trafford but he believes Zidane will offer a “level above.” Having won two La Liga trophies and three straight Champions League medals at the Real helm, the former Real Madrid manager has not worked since 2021.

Winner of the Champions League Saha, who accompanied Zidane when France was runner-up in the 2006 World Cup, said of him: “very hard worker” who “never asked his management for anything.” Although United has lately changed its boardroom team to handle problems that have dogged them in past years, recruiting remains one major area of worry.

Although there are debates over the enormous contracts granted to veterans like Casemiro and Raphael Varane, Brazil winger Antony cost £80million from Ajax and has failed to justify that expenditure. But Saha thinks United may also undergo transformation from Zidane’s capacity to motivate a shift in mindset, as seen during his stay at Real.

But he pointed out that managing a less-than-perfect transfer plan would be difficult for Zidane should he inherit Old Trafford. Still, Saha says Zidane’s insistence on his players giving their all might increase their chances for victory.
