Pep Guardiola plans to breach a long-standing transfer regulation in order to bring his former player to Manchester City in a massive deal.

Pep Guardiola may be poised to breach his long-standing rule if Manchester City completes a major move.

City had another great season in 2023-24, as Guardiola’s team successfully defended their league crown and won the Premier League for the fourth year in a row.

But Guardiola understands that at the best level of football, remaining still is equivalent to moving backwards.

The Catalan coach will be hoping that City sports director Txiki Begiristain can bring in some new players this summer as the club looks to capture a record sixth Premier League championship in succession.

City have been connected with Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, although acquiring him would violate a transfer clause that Guardiola rigidly enforces.

According to HITC, City are hoping to capitalise on Kimmich being ‘unsettled’ at Bayern after a dismal season.

The German giants concluded the season trophyless when Bayer Leverkusen broke their Bundesliga dominance, and head coach Thomas Tuchel has been replaced by former City captain Vincent Kompany.

Kimmich’s contract expires next summer, and both City and Barcelona are keeping an eye on the issue, as Bayern may opt to sell this summer.

However, if Guardiola wants Kimmich, he will have to break his rule against signing players from past teams.

The 53-year-old signed Kimmich for Bayern in 2015 and is a huge fan of the German international, particularly his tactical acumen and adaptability.
