Anthony Martial has announced his resignation from Manchester United after nine seasons.
Martial arrived from AS Monaco in 2015 for an initial ÂŁ36 million and has since scored 90 goals in 317 appearances.
However, his time at Old Trafford has been marred by injury and inconsistency, prompting United to decline his request for a new contract.
Martial, like Raphael Varane and Brandon Williams, will go on a free transfer when his contract expires.
He said his goodbyes to fans during Unitedâs final home game of the season and was not included to the FA Cup final team against Manchester City.
On Monday night, he issued a long statement announcing his departure and thanking the fans, teammates, and staff.
On Instagram, Martial addressed to United fans: âItâs with tremendous emotion that I write to you today to say farewell.â After nine amazing years at the club, itâs time for me to start a new chapter in my career.
âSince I came in 2015, Iâve had the incredible honor of wearing this jersey and performing in front of you, the finest fans in the world!
âYou have been an unflinching support, through good times and bad.Your enthusiasm and loyalty have been an ongoing source of inspiration for me.
âThank you from the bottom of my heart for everything youâve done for me. Your music, support, and love for the club will live on in my heart forever.
âIâd also want to thank my teammates, technical staff, and all of the club members Iâve met over my nine years here. I am pleased to have been able to share these experiences with you.
âManchester United will always be in my heart. This club has left an imprint on my career and given me a wonderful opportunity to perform in front of you. Iâm departing to pursue other opportunities, but Iâll always be a Red Devil and will passionately follow the clubâs performances.
