Brighton’s left-back Pervis Estupiñán has reportedly expressed a strong desire to join Manchester United this summer and has instructed his representatives to begin working on a move away from the Amex Stadium, according to journalist Sebastien Vidal.
Following a disastrous 2024/25 season that saw United slump to a historic low 15th-place Premier League finish and fall short in the Europa League final, the club is actively rebuilding its squad under new manager Ruben Amorim. While the focus so far has been on strengthening the attacking line—with Matheus Cunha already through the door and Bryan Mbeumo still being pursued—attention is also turning to defensive reinforcements.
Estupiñán, who is 27 and a key figure for the Ecuadorian national team, is reportedly eager to join Amorim’s project at Old Trafford. His performances have not gone unnoticed by the United scouting team, and he’s viewed as a player who could fit the club’s high-tempo, wing-back system. It’s said that he has now officially asked his agents to seek an exit from Brighton and explore a move to Manchester.
Despite this, it appears the club doesn’t currently view him as a top priority. While United admire his qualities, the position is already well-covered with the likes of Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, Harry Amass, and recent signings Patrick Dorgu and Diego Leon. The latter, a young left-back from Paraguay, is expected to begin with the youth setup.
Brighton, meanwhile, are reportedly valuing Estupiñán at around €40–45 million, and they aren’t under pressure to sell. United would likely face competition from Chelsea, Tottenham, and AC Milan, who are also monitoring the situation. With multiple clubs interested, any transfer would require a significant financial commitment.
Estupiñán’s attributes—pace, energy, and solid defensive work—make him a logical fit for Amorim’s style, but with several other pressing squad needs, including a new striker, midfielder, and goalkeeper, the club may opt to hold off on further investments at left wing-back.
For now, Estupiñán waits, hopeful that Manchester United will turn their admiration into formal action. Whether that happens depends on how United balance their priorities in what’s shaping up to be a pivotal transfer window.
