The Manchester United player Amad didn’t get a penalty against Arsenal because it was he who touched Thomas Partey first.

Early in the game, United was playing well against Arsenal. But Arsenal took the lead when Leandro Trossard easily turned in a cross from Kai Havertz in front of the Stretford End. He cut in from the right side and then went to the ground as the 21-year-old tried to even things out.

An early look at the Partey challenge put it inside the penalty area, but a video showed it could have been much closer. Video review agreed with the judge, Paul Tierney, that there should not be a penalty kick.

United thought they should have been given a penalty when Thomas Partey tripped Amad and knocked him to the ground during their Premier League game against Arsenal.

“For me, it’s not inside [the penalty area],” Mike Dean, a former Premier League referee, told Sky Sports. He should be fine because he was quick and skilled enough to step on Partey’s foot and knock him down.

But Gary Neville said it wasn’t so clear-cut. “The only question is whether or not there was party on the floor,” he said.

Dean wouldn’t give up, though. “I don’t think there is enough in it,” he said. Amad stepped on his foot, so I know it’s out there.

I don’t think it’s a penalty kick. The VAR (John Brooks) agreed with Paul that what he did was right.
