Manchester United manager Erig Ten Hag has left Manchester United this afternoon and his replacement has been named
Erik ten Hag has changed his mind about how he thought Manchester United played against Coventry. He now says that his team “fell below the standards” he expected.
United beat Coventry 4-2 on penalties in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday, after an amazing 3-3 draw in which they gave up a 3-0 lead. The Championship team forced extra time by taking advantage of a weak defense. In the 121st minute, Victor Torp scored a goal that was just inches off, forcing extra time.
Even though his team played poorly, Ten Hag was still happy that they had made it to the FA Cup final for the second year in a row, and he didn’t care what people said about his players. When someone asked him if the show was embarrassing, he went on a rage and called some of the negative responses “a shame.”
But in the United program for Wednesday night’s home game against Sheffield United, he wrote in a very different way. “Winning is the most important thing in sport, but it was clear that the way we won wasn’t up to the standards we set for ourselves,” he wrote. “When you’re in that spot, you can’t let your opponent get back into the game at all.”
The new information says that Ten Hag wants to keep the fans on his side even though there is talk about his future at the club. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Avram Glazer were both at Wembley to see United barely beat Coventry. The INEOS boss has been busy hiring new people for key roles at the club.
When asked earlier in the week if he knew why people didn’t like the Coventry performance, Ten Hag got very angry. “No. “Certainly not,” he replied. The question was, “Is it embarrassing?’ You made enough.” What you did was embarrassing, not funny.
“It’s the comments. If you want to make it to the final of top football, you have to win games like this one. You earned it. We lost for 20 minutes, and it was also bad luck when it went 3-2 and then 3-3. It’s clear that we were very lucky in the end. Penalties was great, and we made it to the final, which is a huge accomplishment. That’s great to do twice in two years. Four cups in four years for me as a boss. What they said is shameful.
