Instead, players like Victor Lindelof, Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay, and Marcus Rashford were brought in, some of whom have stayed on beyond Mourinho’s tenure.
In a recent interview with the Telegraph, Mourinho hinted that the retention of certain players has hindered the club’s progress since his departure, implying that Manchester United has regressed. He expressed a desire for the club to thrive but suggested that some players he didn’t want during his time still remain, embodying qualities he believes are not ideal for a club of United’s stature.
Mourinho also took a swipe at former chief executive Ed Woodward, comparing his professional relationship with Woodward unfavorably to the support Erik ten Hag reportedly receives at Ajax. Despite leading United to a second-place finish in his second season, Mourinho lamented his lack of backing and trust, expressing regret over his departure.
