Van de Beek’s stint with Frankfurt has been overshadowed by sparse game time, often finding himself on the bench and excluded from the Europa Conference League roster, hinting at an uncertain future with the German side.
According to talkSPORT reports, Van de Beek seems poised for a Manchester United return after Frankfurt showed no inclination to trigger the buy option in the loan deal.
Initially brought to Old Trafford in 2020 from Ajax for around £40 million by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Dutch midfielder struggled to live up to expectations due to injuries and a dip in form.
During his time at United, Van de Beek made only 62 appearances across all competitions, scoring just twice. A loan spell at Everton in the 2021/2022 season didn’t yield significant improvement either, with only one goal in seven outings for the Toffees.
In January, United manager Erik ten Hag highlighted Van de Beek’s injury woes as a major hurdle, emphasizing the player’s struggle to regain full fitness since joining the club.
Moreover, Ten Hag pointed out the intense competition for midfield spots at United, which further limited Van de Beek’s chances of getting onto the field, attributing the decision for his loan spell’s delay to this stiff competition and pre-existing agreements with other players in his position.
