Mason Greenwood is not set to return to action for Manchester United just yet, despite the legal charges against him being dropped. On Thursday, both Greater Manchester Police and the Crown Prosecution Service announced the charges would not proceed. According to the CPS, this was due to key witnesses withdrawing and the emergence of new evidence that weakened the likelihood of a successful prosecution. The police confirmed they had kept in close contact with legal teams throughout the investigation and acknowledged that the decision to end proceedings was carefully considered.

Though the legal case has been closed, Greenwood’s professional future at Manchester United remains uncertain. The club has initiated its own investigation to fully understand the events surrounding the case. During this process, Greenwood will remain excluded from training sessions and matches. There is currently no set timeline for when this review will conclude.

In an official statement, Manchester United acknowledged the CPS’s decision but emphasized that the club will conduct its own process to determine any further action. Until that is completed, they have said they will refrain from making additional comments. Manager Erik ten Hag also declined to elaborate, instead referring reporters to the club’s formal statement.

As of now, Greenwood’s return to Carrington and any involvement in team activities is on hold.
