Former Chelsea star is set to leave Barcelona on a free transfer this summer

Marcos Alonso will leave Barcelona on a free transfer at the conclusion of the season, having spent two years with the Catalan club.

The 33-year-old has had an injury-plagued season, suffering a back problem in December and missing a La Liga game since October.

The Spain international joined Barcelona from Chelsea in 2022 and played consistently in his first season, making 37 appearances in all competitions and winning La Liga.

The full-back started on a one-year contract but signed a new contract in January last year to stay until the summer of 2024.

However, injuries have cost him, and his time at the Camp Nou will come to an end this summer, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Alonso has returned from injury and was on the bench for Barcelona’s 1-0 La Liga victory over Las Palmas on March 30. He hopes to complete his stint at the club strongly. Xavi’s team will next compete in the Champions League quarter-finals against PSG, which begin on April 10 in Paris.
