Legendary football manager Sir Alex Ferguson has sent shockwaves through the football world with his unexpected announcement of a return to the Premier League Club

Fans of Manchester United don’t understand why one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most underrated talents has “still” not been inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.

Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford in 2013 after winning his last Premier League title with Manchester United at the end of the 2012–13 season.

The 82-year-old Scotsman was in charge of a team at Old Trafford that had many famous players on it, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs, and Paul Scholes.

Ferguson is known as one of the best managers of all time. In 2023, he became the first manager to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.

The Scot was inducted into the Hall of Fame along with the great former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. Wenger and Ferguson were famous rivals in the Premier League.

Some great United players, like David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Roy Keane, and Eric Cantona, have also earned their spots in the Hall of Fame.

Ferguson famously said that in his legendary career, he only handled four world-class players, even though he brought the best players to Old Trafford.

Ferguson said there would only be one past football player who was a “certainty” in his all-time XI, even though he only praised four world-class players.

A Manchester United great was turned down for the Hall of Fame
On Monday, the official website of the Premier League revealed that Ashley Cole, a legend at Chelsea, was the newest member of the Hall of Fame.

Ashley Cole, who played a lot of games for both Arsenal and Chelsea, is one of three new members of the Premier League Hall of Fame class of 2024.

Public votes will decide which two players go into the Hall of Fame. Fans can cast their votes on the official website of the Premier League.

The two other inductees’ votes will end on April 8 at 12 p.m. UK time, and the Premier League will name the winners on April 22.

The public vote includes five legendary Manchester United players, such as Andy Cole, who won three trophies, and Michael Carrick, who played centre for England.

Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville was also on the shortlist, along with Edwin van der Sar, Nemanja Vidic, and another former United player, Gary Neville.

Michael Owen, a striker who used to play for Liverpool and was brought to Old Trafford by Sir Alex Ferguson, also made the Hall of Fame group.

But angry fans couldn’t understand why United great Denis Irwin wasn’t chosen for the Hall of Fame instead of Cole.

Fans of Manchester United were angry that Denis Irwin had not been chosen for the Premier League Hall of Fame. United fans on X, the social media site that used to be called Twitter, were upset about this.

Irwin, an Irishman who is 58 years old, had a great career at United under Ferguson. He was great as a fullback on either side and from free kicks and penalties.

Dean Irwin has more than twice as many Premier League wins as Cole. It’s crazy that he still hasn’t been honoured, wrote one X account.

Someone else wrote on Twitter, “Denis Irwin is still getting turned down.”

Another person said, “Worried when I saw Denis Irwin was popular, but it’s just to remind everyone who the best left back in NFL history was.”

Someone else said, “I don’t mind if Cole gets into the Premier League Hall of Fame.” But putting him in before Denis Irwin is a joke, and someone needs to be held responsible for the choice.

“When’s Denis Irwin getting inducted then?” asked a fifth.

While someone else said, “Denis Irwin. For the best left back in Premier League history, the fact that he isn’t even on the shortlist is a scandal.

One fan wrote, “Denis Irwin over Ashley Cole and it’s not even a debate.”

And the eighth person wrote, “Denis Irwin should be ahead of him [Cole], though.”
