Someone who used to work as a financial advisor for Manchester City says that Chelsea needs to sell more than 100 players to escape a Financial Fair Play (FFP) penalty from the Premier League.
This season, both Everton and Nottingham Forest lost points because they were accused of breaking the Premier League’s FFP rules. These rules say that clubs can only lose a maximum of £105 million over three years, or £35 million each season.
Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital bought Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in May 2022, they have spent more than £1 billion on new players.
And Stefan Borson, a football business expert, thinks that the Premier League might punish Chelsea more harshly than they punished Everton and Forest.
“Maybe even worse,” Borson told talkSPORT.
“I think the losses they’re predicting right now are much bigger than what Everton and Nottingham Forest could handle.”

Borson now thinks that Chelsea will have to get rid of a few first-team players before the June 30 FFP limit.
“People thought Mason Mount was sold because it was announced on Manchester United’s website on July 1 that he would be leaving during this season,” Borson said.
It was this season that they made £55 million. It turns out that Mason Mount was bought and sold in 2022 or 2023, which is how they got through.
When it was said that Chelsea has lost £55 million this season, Borson said, “That’s right.”

Borson was asked how Chelsea could make ends meet without playing in Europe. He said, “Really, they have to find buyers for Trevoh Chalobah for £20m, Armando Broja for £40m, and Conor Gallagher for £50m.”
