WHAT GUARDIOLA SAID: When discussing the skills of the Brazilian midfield player for Newcastle, City manager Guardiola was not holding back. “Exceptional holding midfielder,” he described himself during Friday’s press conference. “Aggressive; he pauses when handling the ball, yet he is aggressive during games. Newcastle wants to expand right now, and I have no doubt that this will be a goal for the upcoming years.”

In October 2023, the 26-year-old midfield player signed a new contract at St. James’ Park with the intention of staying with the team until 2028.
In spite of the new arrangement, Guimaraes’ new contract purports to contain a release clause worth more than £100 million ($127 million). If City is willing to pay the higher fee, that might allow them to pursue the player. In the past, they haven’t run from expensive price tags.

FUTURE PLANS FOR GUIMAREAS?
The midfield player will not be thinking about his future at this time. Newcastle’s Premier League performances have declined, and they are currently in tenth place. This is partly because of their longer schedule from their Champions League participation earlier in the season.
Away from league play, Guimaraes will get the chance to show off his skills to City this coming Saturday when the Magpies play Guardiola’s team in the FA Cup.
