Many Chelsea supporters were certainly aware that Todd Boehly, the other co-owner, had recently visited Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Pro League’s football director, Michael Emenalo, met with the American billionaire, who has recently received pressure.

Emenalo was previously a member of Chelsea’s boardroom team, and the meeting was convened in reaction to speculations that Riyadh Air might become the team’s next shirt sponsor.

Boehly and Mourinho do not appear to have met, and even if they did, it is unlikely that it would have been made public. Nonetheless, Mourinho is regarded as one of the leading candidates to follow Pochettino, who is struggling to preserve his job.
