Fans make same point about Cole Palmer after Raheem Sterling misses penalty against Leicester
Fans say that Raheem Sterling should have let Cole Palmer take Chelsea’s chance in the first half of their FA Cup game against Leicester City.
In the 26th minute of Sunday’s quarterfinal, Mauricio Pochettino’s team looked like they would score again after Abdul Fatawu tackled Sterling from behind and brought him down in the area.
Sterling, who had a tough first half on Sunday, stepped up to take the penalty kick, which made some fans curious because Cole Palmer’s recent record from 12 yards out was 0–1.
And the English player missed with a weak shot because Jakub Stolarczyk guessed correctly.

Someone said, “Sterling drops the pen.” Palmer should have been in charge of that. “That was a bad punishment.”
A second said: “Utterly bizarre decision to give Sterling the penalty when Palmer is on the pitch.”
“How is Sterling taking the penalty when Palmer is on?” wrote a third. Has missed a great chance, stopped a shot from a teammate, and now messed up Palmer’s chance to make it 2-0. I would have NO issues if you took him off now.
A fourth person said, “This is yet another example of Chelsea’s poor leadership and game management.” Why did Sterling get to take the penalty instead of Palmer?
“WHY IS STERLING TAKING THAT PENALTY?” asked a fifth. Cole is the one who takes penalties.
It has been said before by Mauricio Pochettino that Chelsea does not have a designated spot taker.
Palmer and Sterling had a fight in October over who should take a penalty kick in their game against Arsenal. He then said, “There are a few players who can take the penalty.” It’s about how they feel.

“It’s not just one player, that player is going to be in charge,” he said. It proves Cole was ready for the two penalties he got.
“He is usually the one who does it when he’s on the pitch.” If not, though, I’d be fine with Raheem or Nico J.
