Manchester City Pep Guardiola responds to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s claim that trophies ‘mean more’ to Liverpool than Man City
Pep Guardiola has responded to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s remark that Liverpool fans value trophies more than Manchester City supporters.
Liverpool and City will meet at Anfield on Sunday in a contest that might decide the Premier League title.
Jurgen Klopp’s team are presently one point ahead of City at the top of the league, with Arsenal a point behind.

Alexander-Arnold has exacerbated emotions ahead of the match by stating that trophies have become more important to Liverpool fans than Manchester City in recent years.
He told FourFourTwo, “It’s challenging. We’re up against a machine designed to win, which is the simplest way to characterise City and their structure.
“Looking back on this era, while they may have won more titles and been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase due to the financial realities at both teams.

“How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we’ve done it, probably means more to our fans.”
Those remarks have heated up several City players, including Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias.
“If he wants to say it, that’s fine,” Haaland replied. “I’ve been here a year and won the treble, which was a very good feeling. I’m not sure he understands how I feel. That’s how I felt last season; it was extremely enjoyable.”
Dias told BBC Radio Manchester: “We’ve won a lot at this club, particularly last year with the Treble. I believe we all understand how much it meant to each other and to our supporters.

“At the end of the day, you can only experience certain emotions if you win something. A treble is a feeling that can only be experienced when you do it.”

Pep Guardiola has now weighed in on the topic, responding briefly when asked about Alexander-Arnold, who is presently sidelined with a knee ailment.
“I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he returns as soon as possible,” Guardiola added, declining to go further.
Liverpool manager Klopp was also asked about Alexander-Arnold’s comments during his pre-match press conference, and he responded bluntly.
“Nothing wrong with what Trent said,” Klopp remarked.
