Kieran Trippier will miss Newcastle United’s forthcoming matches against Chelsea and Manchester City due to injury.
Eddie Howe later announced that Trippier had suffered a calf injury but did not specify how serious the injury was or how long he would be absent.
‘He felt a pain in his calf; we’re hoping it’s not too serious,’ the manager stated.
‘It was nice to see him walk down the touchline instead of limp, so we’ll see how terrible it is.’
According to Mail Sport, scans have indicated that, while the injury is not as catastrophic as initially suspected, it is severe enough to knock the 33-year-old out until the end of the month.
That means he will miss Newcastle’s trip to Stamford Bridge on Monday night, when the club hopes to climb to seventh place in the Premier League.
Worryingly for the Magpies, Trippier will also miss the FA Cup quarterfinal against holders Manchester City next Saturday evening.
Due to the injury, he is now a doubt for England’s March friendly against Belgium and Brazil.
Trippier is anticipated to be part of Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions selection for Euro 2024, so missing these games will be a major setback, especially because fellow right-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James are also sidelined.
At the very least, he is anticipated to return from the international break for Newcastle’s match against West Ham on March 31st.
