‘He was really good and the best for Manchester United right now’ – Erling Haaland offers advice to Man Utd’s Rasmus Hojlund for his performance recently

Erling Haaland has encouraged his fellow Scandinavian striker and Manchester rival Rasmus Hojlund to keep progressing after being impressed by his maiden season in the Premier League.

Haaland’s 18 goals make him the Premier League’s leading scorer, and he now has 54 in 57 league appearances for Manchester City, but after a sluggish start, Hojlund is showing flashes of promise for Manchester United.

The Dane has scored in six consecutive Premier League games, having only broken his drought on Boxing Day, and his absence from Sunday’s Etihad derby was a significant setback for United.

Hojlund’s first taste of the derby, at Old Trafford in October, resulted in a penalty when he was penalised for holding Rodri following a VAR review, but Norwegian Haaland was impressed by him, and the two strikers have been compared at times this season, despite their differing expectations and goalscoring records.

Haaland was frequently linked with a move to United, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attempting to bring him to Old Trafford in January 2020, only for the striker to join Borussia Dortmund instead. He is currently leading City’s campaign for another treble, but he understands the pressure Hojlund will face as the man expected to score goals at United.

“His start was a little rough, but it got lot better. “When we played against him, he was really good, he’s a good player, he’s young like me, he has to keep developing, and as a striker for Manchester United, he has to score goals, that’s his job,” he stated.
