Zinedine Zidane earlier stated that he would accept “only three roles” in a conversation with former Real Madrid teammate Thomas Gravesen.

The 51-year-old, who has been out of work since 2021 after leaving Real Madrid for the second time, is still being associated with a variety of positions, both international and club level.

He recently declined the chance to lead Algeria’s national side, despite being ‘flattered’ by the interest exhibited in him as they sought to replace Djamel Belmadi.

Last week, French journal Foot Mercato alleged that Manchester United shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have “dreams” of replacing Erik ten Hag with Zidane.

INEOS Sport’s CEO, Jean-Claude Blanc, has long admired Zidane and even attempted to sign him while he was at Paris Saint-Germain.

So, where does he finish up? As speculation about Zidane’s future continues, former Los Blancos teammate Thomas Gravesen has provided an intriguing glimpse into his state of mind.

Gravesen mentioned a talk they had two years ago during a recent interview with Discovery+.

“I spoke with Zidane in Madrid two years ago, and he told me that there are only three roles that he would like to accept,” the former Denmark international said.

“And they are: Marseille, Madrid, and the French team. We were in Madrid two years ago, and he told me exactly that. I also inquired if he would be willing to coach again. And he informed me there were no options for these three.”
Gravesen also cited the already stated links to the Manchester United job.

He said, “I would argue that the team he had at Madrid was fantastic, and he was ready from the start.

“In the United the situation is different, it is very difficult to do something with the team that Ten Hag has at the moment.”

Zidane discussed his future at a film premiere last month. When asked if he plans to return to teaching, Zidane said, “Why not? Anything might happen.

“But at the moment, I’m doing something different. I am confident that I will return to the bench, and I would like to coach again.
