Thomas Tuchel has already been identified as potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp as manager of Liverpool

The departure of a past Champions League winner from Bayern Munich at the end of the season marks a significant shift for the club, which confronts the unusual prospect of finishing the season without any trophies.

Bayer Leverkusen’s excellent performance has challenged Bayern’s long-standing Bundesliga dominance, which they now hold by eight points.

This season, Bayern has suffered three consecutive defeats in various competitions, an unusual occurrence since 2015, whereas Leverkusen has an undefeated streak of 32 games, consisting of 28 wins and four draws.

Despite professing a desire to return to the Premier League owing to feeling undervalued in Germany, Thomas Tuchel, Bayern’s current manager, could be replaced ironically by Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen or possibly Liverpool.

Tuchel is reportedly interested in joining Manchester United, but there is no immediate threat to current manager Erik ten Hag’s employment, despite previous season pressure.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United’s new owner, emphasises the importance of quality in key positions and a competitive yet supportive environment.

While there is no sign of Ten Hag’s impending departure, the club is under pressure to meet its season targets.

Tuchel, who was fired by Chelsea despite winning several titles, including the Champions League, believes he still has unfinished business in the Premier League.

He has been linked with moves to Liverpool and Barcelona as well.

Tuchel’s tenure at Chelsea came to an unexpected end in September 2022, despite major investment in new acquisitions and past triumphs, including taking Chelsea to three domestic cup finals without winning any of them.
