After both the cops and the club looked into the 22-year-old’s personal life, he was sent on loan to Getafe.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped the claims against the forward after a key witness withdrew, but Manchester United decided that Greenwood should no longer be their lawyer.

Even so, he would turn down the chance to sign with Barcelona if it meant another chance at United, where fans of the other team would make him feel welcome.

Someone who did not want to be named told the Sun, “Mason respected Manchester United’s choice to send him to Spain, but he always wanted to get back to the team after the police investigation was over.”

“He’d love a second chance and feels he owes the fans and the manager something.”

There is no doubt that Manchester United is the biggest and best club in the world. He would go back if the chance came up.

Barcelona is one of many teams that want to sign him.

“But if United offered him a chance to save his career at Old Trafford, he’d be taking the fastest flight home.”

There has been talk that United might change their minds after he scored seven goals in 24 games for Getafe.
